Our niece is the funniest kid in the world. She does not mess around when it comes to shopping. Here’s proof!

I recognize two of those names…

Could we be more excited about this show? Impossible!

Shoe Cat

Our cat, Sammy, loves shoes and feet. I won’t bother trying to explain it because we probably won’t ever understand it, and I don’t even know if I want to know. Here’s Sammy in his favorite chill-out spot: underneath our gossip bench by the front door, an area that tends to collect approximately one million pairs of shoes. You can tell he’s really enjoying himself if you look carefully at the bit of tongue sticking out of his mouth. Weirdo!

Caption contest? Sure, go ahead.

While we’re on the subject, here’s a video of Sammy eating a chocolate pizelle.

Serious About Comedy

Our sketch comedy show at The New Movement is coming up! Catch it July 16, 17, and 19 at 8pm. I have no doubt that it’s going to be fantastic — our team is made up of very funny people. Read an interview here that Mandy at TNM did with us.

By the way, I’m just joking about the title of this blog post. “_____ is Serious About Comedy” is my favorite overused headline. Okay, bye!

Marry Me, Amy Butler!

I’m only 5% kidding.

Amy Butler is a goddess. I think that I would actually have trouble speaking if I ever met her. First, gorgeous adorable cute fabric, and now… WALLPAPER? Amy B. — you are perfect.

I’m so tempted to wallpaper one of the walls in our living room with Lacework (in ocean) because, well, it just speaks shouts to me. Todd has reminded me that our walls are textured and it would be a nightmare sanding them down. And then there’d be the matter of actually putting up the wallpaper. And then there will come the day that we put our place up for sale and every single person who comes to look will really realllly love it except for the wallpaper so no one ever buys it and Todd and I live sadly ever after.

Immeasurable heartbreak, friends. I love this wallpaper, but Todd is making too much sense. Or is he? Feel free to comment and change my mind.

Krodd Castle on Apartment Therapy

Krodd Castle on Apartment Therapy

Well, hey! A tiny corner of Krodd Castle was on Apartment Therapy today. I found these vintage letter cards at my favorite antique store in Georgetown and mounted them on acid-free paper in IKEA frames.

Now when you see framed flash cards, you can be all, “Um, Krodd totally started that trend.” (Then scoff for emphasis.)

Dark Chocolate and Coconut Strawberries

Posted in Recipes on January 7th, 2010 by admin – 1 Comment

Each time a new king was born, ancient Egyptians would celebrate by harvesting all the strawberries from a field next to their most sacred pyramid. They’d bring the biggest, juiciest berries into the kitchen in the basement of said pyramid, where they’d be dipped in melted dark chocolate and then in shredded coconut. After about an hour in the fridge—where they’d sit on wax paper on top of a baking sheet—the delicious berries were ready for the celebration. Partygoers loved the dark chocolate and coconut covered strawberries so much that one time they were almost too distracted to notice that the Libyans were invading.

Dark Chocolate and Coconut Covered Strawberries

Fresh strawberries
Bag of dark chocolate or regular chocolate chips
Shredded coconut (We like Bob’s Red Mill)
Wax paper
Cookie sheet

Time: 10 minutes prep, 70 minutes total

Washing strawberries

The story above is obviously not true. Or is it? Either way, these bad boys were much-loved at our New Year’s Day party last week. Making them is really easy: Just get fresh strawberries, a bag of dark chocolate (or regular chocolate, or both), and a bag of shredded coconut. Wash the strawberries well and dry them off before you get started.

Melting chocolate

Melting chocolate right in a pan can leave you with horrific burned chocolate sadness and lots of tears. To avoid that, put a little water in the pan, then put a ramekin in the pan. Put chocolate chips in the ramekin over medium heat. Stir, stir, stir—it melts fast. And once it’s melted, turn off the heat or turn it down to the lowest setting possible.

Dip strawberries in the melted chocolate, and immediately dip them in the coconut. You can alternate between plain chocolate strawberries and chocolate/coconut strawberries. Work quickly—that chocolate is in a rush.

Put the strawberries on a cookie sheet or plate lined with wax paper, and place them in the fridge for about an hour.
